Overview

Situada en la ciudad de Córdoba en vísperas de la Revolución de 1868, “La feria de los discretos” (1905) tiene como protagonista a Quintín García Roelas, arquetipo de ese" hombre de acción" cuyas ideas y creencias colorean tan vivamente el mundo de Pío Baroja (1872-1956). El descubrimiento de la miseria y mezquindad de las gentes y la ridiculización de los sentimientos nobles y los propósitos honestos destruyen los ideales del joven cordobés, quien cae en un profundo pesimismo acerca del mundo y de la condición humana. Y si bien Quintín termina por abrirse paso en la vida gracias a su dureza y cinismo, nunca le abandona la vaga conciencia de la superioridad moral de los comportamientos guiados por motivaciones y valores distintos de los que hacen suyos los triunfadores.
